What’s the Big Deal about a Logo? Some business owners will argue that only price, product and service matter when it comes to sales. I heard one business owner refer to a professional logo as “fluff.” Why, then, do large companies spend millions of dollars to create the perfect logo (their visual identity)? Because it matters. It matters a lot.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a logo is worth a thousand impressions. If your logo is weak, common, outdated, or home-spun, you are communicating to your target market those very attributes about your product or service. It’s a subliminal message, but if a customer is comparing you to your competitor and—all other things being equal—your competitor has a credible, professional logo, your customer will likely walk right past you and give their $$$ to your competitor. Ouch.

It’s a given that people make a purchase when they feel good about it. If a real estate agent expected to sell million dollar homes, he wouldn’t do it driving a beat-up Buick that he’d painted himself. Handing out poorly designed promotional material is the marketing equivalent.

If your logo and promotional material are unprofessional, you are giving your customers a reason NOT to buy from you. Double Ouch.

A good logo strengthens your position in the marketplace and unifies all of your promotional material. Acquiring an effective logo should be at the ground floor of all your marketing efforts.
